Independence is captivity in the purest sense. A trap older than mankind, the original sin. A strong delusion greater than all other ideas. To be independent one must die, and even then, I cannot say for certain that independence is reserved for those unalive. What I do know is there is no such thing as independence for those in the land of the living.
To be alive is to depend on all that makes life under the sun possible. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we consume. Everyone alive and in the grave today depended on a man called “father” being physically capable and willing to plant the seed that became you, I, and me. We all depended on a woman called “mother” being physically capable and or willing to receive you as seed and carry that seed until it became life realized postpartum. Yet, there are human beings once born claiming independence as an adjective for themselves and what they do.
It’s absurd to qualify anyone, anything, and any place on this earth as independent. It’s not possible, nor is it true. Without the mind, vocalization, or the body, the notion of independence ceases to exist. Sovereign territories depend on borders, boundaries, laws, and the very concept of sovereignty being respected and honored. Workers, laborers, and individual service providers depend on favorable conditions, stable currency, clients, customers, and attention for the provisions they need to survive and thrive. How can anyone claim independence?
Even the silly ones, who think that owning a business entity means they are independent, know they think lies. No one can escape death and every living being depends on the Father who gives the breath of life, regardless of if we acknowledge it or Him. Both are constant pillars we depend on. Death motivates us to seek glory, and the Holy One ensures we have ample time to obtain it. How then are so many claiming to be without an authority over their lives? Selah
